LEARN TO PLAY THE BAGPIPES AND HAVE FUN TOO! A set of bagpipes is NOT required to begin your studies -- you will start out on a practice chanter. Whether you have no experience with the pipes, or if you played once and now want to get back into it, or if you are a continuing player interested in brushing up your skills with a good teacher, all are welcome. Current opening for drummers are available. Want to join our pipe and drum band: Email: pushycelt@aol.com Pipers available for weddings and special occasions. For further info, phone Joe at (213) 324-4530, or e-mail pushycelt@aol.com. British legislation of August 1747, The Act of Proscription, made the wearing of kilts and tartans illegal and also prohibited the playing of bagpipes. After the 1707 Act of the Union, which joined Scotland to England and Wales, tartans became part of a weak underground resistance. This rising crumbled in 1745 with the downfall of the Young Pretender, Prince Charles Edward Stuart. After Bonnie Prince Charlie's defeat, tartans were banned until 1782. Penalty for wearing kilt or tartan shall be liable to be transported to any of His Majesty's plantations beyond the seas, there to remain for the space of seven years. History of Highland Dress.
